Improving CLL’s website for in-house lawyers to highlight critical knowledge

About the Centre for Legal Leadership (CLL)

The Centre for Legal Leadership (CLL) is a unique professional community for the Global in-house legal community, powered by top-50 law firm Reynolds Porter Chamberlain.

CLL supports networking, professional development and community support for in-house legal teams through a blend of events and knowledge-based content. CLL’s website is a goldmine of peer-reviewed knowledge articles and commissioned viewpoints from leading in-house lawyers and other experts, guiding in-house legal professionals through the non-technical aspects of their roles.

  • Website redesign, New search features
  • Refreshed redesign with new landing pages
  • Dramatic improvement in site search
  • Improved visibility and findability of high value content

The challenge

CLL were keen to improve the findability and discoverability of their high-value knowledge content, which was often buried within the site structure and effectively hidden. By increasing the visibility of articles and viewpoints, they aimed to increase the number of repeat visitors to the website and attract new in-house professionals, helping to build the CLL community and brand.

The CLL team came to us with a brief to make it easier to spotlight new articles and viewpoints, allow visitors to browse through the knowledge article collection on different themes and enhance the search. In parallel, they also wanted to enhance the site’s design to make sure it was eye-catching but also easy to use, building on improvements that had already been made to the homepage.

Our website is a critical channel for CLL, and our knowledge content is a core part of our value proposition for the in-house legal community. The new website features help to make that content far more visible. The combination of 3Chillies’s expertise in Sitecore development, Konstructive’s strong design work and some excellent communication during the project have really enhanced the site.

The work we delivered

Working closely with the CLL team and design partners Konstructive, we held two workshops to define and prioritise the client’s requirements in more detail. From this, we were able to scope the project while Konstructive worked on designs for several new page templates and components. Following sign-off from the client, we developed and deployed the new capabilities and designs in CLL’s existing Sitecore instance. Throughout the project, very close communication was established with regular check-ins and interaction on our DevOps system.

The results

The result of our work is a refreshed website that incorporates Konstructive’s attractive designs alongside several new components, templates and capabilities. A new knowledge landing page allows the CLL team to curate and spotlight knowledge articles on different themes, with a variety of presentation options to pique visual interest. Similar landing pages have been included for different knowledge themes based on a simple content hierarchy, and a new Viewpoints landing page leverages the design and features to present thought-pieces and opinions.

A new embedded search facility on each knowledge page allows keyword-driven and contextual searching through the knowledge collection, based on different categories and themes. Results are returned dynamically within each page as cards. A new tagging system based on a simple taxonomy has been introduced to power the search.

The overall site search has been dramatically improved, with the card format extended to present search results for all content types, alongside the ability to refine search results based on keywords. A megamenu in the site navigation has been enabled to better navigate knowledge articles. Other design touches and flourishes have been added to multiple content types to accentuate the CLL brand and ensure a consistent and elegant experience for visitors.

The future

The CLL team are very pleased with the new site designs, and feedback from the in-house legal community has been highly positive, remarking on the improved visibility of knowledge content. The refreshed website is going from strength to strength, continuing to attract visits from right across the in-house community while encouraging a stream of content contributions from prominent GCs and experts.
