Umbraco 7 faces End of Life in September 2023
Umbraco 7 becomes unsupported by Umbraco HQ from September, 2023. Only security updates have been provided for the last few years and with the launch of Umbraco 11 the decision has been made to make Umbraco 7 End of Life.
What does this mean for my website?
Essentially, if your website is built on Umbraco 7, then it will become unsupported by Umbraco HQ and therefore your web agency will not be able to provide the support and assurances you need. You will need to start planning a migration to a supported version of Umbraco (preferably the latest version).
It is important to note that your website will continue to work after this date, but will not be supported from data security and risk perspective.
Can I just upgrade, or do I need to migrate?
There is no supported route to upgrading Umbraco 7 to later versions due to the fundamental changes to the platform and database infrastructure, you will need to migrate
Depending on the complexity of your current site, migration can potentially be a significant piece of work. However, this should be seen as an opportunity to make major improvements to every aspect of your digital presence, including performance, user experience, accessibility, SEO optimisation, marketing functionality and security compliance.
What should I do next
If your web agency has not already made you aware of this key date, then you should contact them now and start planning.
We have been an Umbraco Gold Partner since 2016, if you would like to speak to us about your migration plans please get in touch.
